NETWORK CONFIGURATION: DataWind's PocketSurfer uses the cellular-phone as a wireless-modem to connect to the Internet.  The PocketSurfer needs to be:

1.  Configured for Wireless Network Settings, and

2.  Paired to the Cellular Phone

BEFORE STARTING: Connect the charger to your wall socket.  Plug the charger’s connector to the device (on the top right hand side). Let device charge for four (4) hours before first use. A red light will appear on the power indicator of the device. This indicates that the device is correctly connected and is being charged.  The red light will not change color when the device is fully charged, that is why it is important to know the time requirements for charging a device completely.

ACCESS SETTINGS:

-     In this step, we need to configure the device for usage on the wireless network.

-    Turn on the Web-Viewer by pressing the On/Off button, located on the left-side of the device, just below the red-light power-indicator.

-     In a few moments the Web-Viewer will show its opening screen, which will be similar to the following:

-     Per the instructions on the screen of the Web-Viewer, press the SHIFT and ESC keys together to access the Settings menu.

-     On the settings menu, choose option A (“Choose Carrier”), by pressing ‘a’ on the keyboard, or scroll to option-A and press Enter.

-          Choose the network settings that have been enabled for your phone by clicking on the corresponding letter.

-          Follow on-screen instructions.  On-screen instructions will appear in ‘Orange’, and the response you type will appear at the top left corner of the screen.  Once completed, press Escape (ESC) to return to log-on menu.

-          For GPRS carriers, you will need the following information to access their data network:

o         Username

o         Password

o         APN

-          For CDMA 1x carriers, you will need the following information to access their data network:

o         Username

o         Password

-          For Circuit Switched Data, you will need:

o         The local dial-in number

o         Username

o         Password 

-          In the settings, you will also need to choose the carrier-type to reflect if it is a GPRS, 1xRTT or CSD network on which you are trying to make a connection.
