PAIRING CONFIGURATION: DataWind's PocketSurfer uses the cellular-phone as a wireless-modem to connect to the Internet.  The PocketSurfer needs to be:

1.  Configured for Wireless Network Settings, and

2.  Paired to the Cellular Phone

BEFORE STARTING: Connect the charger to your wall socket.  Plug the charger’s connector to the device (on the top right hand side).  Let device charge for four (4) hours before first use.  A red light will appear on the power indicator of the device. This indicates that the device is correctly connected and is being charged.  The red light will not change color when the device is fully charged, that is why it is important to know the time requirements for charging a device completely.

ACCESS SETTINGS:

-     In this step, we need to configure the device for to be able to securely connect to your cellular phone.  Pairing will allow the device to communicate with the handset and take advantage of the data connection.  Your mobile phone connects to the Web-Viewer via Bluetooth (a short-range wireless technology).  If your phone is already Bluetooth enabled, then please skip this step and refer to the Phone’s User Guide.  If the phone is not Bluetooth enabled, then you will need an external Bluetooth adapter (BTA), to allow for convenient, wireless usage of the Web-Viewer.

-    Turn on the Web-Viewer by pressing the On/Off button, located on the left-side of the device, just below the red-light power-indicator.

-     In a few moments the Web-Viewer will show its opening screen, which will be similar to the following:

-     Per the instructions on the screen of the Web-Viewer, press the SHIFT and ESC keys together to access the Settings menu.

-     On the settings menu, choose option B (“Connect to Phone”), by pressing ‘b’ on the keyboard, or scroll to option-B and press Enter.

 
 

PREPARE PHONE

-          The BTA and the phone need to be ‘paired’ together to allow connectivity.  First, prepare the phone, per the following instructions:

o         Turn-on your mobile phone and wait a few moments for the home-screen of your phone to appear.

o         On the home-screen (or standby screen) of the phone, please confirm that you are in network digital coverage area, and not in analog coverage area.  Digital coverage area will be reflected by a ‘D’ or ‘1X’ on the phone, whereas analog will be shown with an ‘A’.

o         Remove the cover from the data-port (if any).  This is generally a small rubber plug.

o         Wait five (5) seconds after the home-screen appears, and then insert BTA

o         Insure that the BTA is in solidly.  If the BTA has small metal clips, then both such clips must engage.

o         Some phones may provide a low audio confirmation once the BTA is inserted.  Others may provide a confirmation on the screen of the phone.  For phones that the provide an onscreen confirmation, you will need to accept the onscreen confirmation. 

o         Before proceeding, please insure phone is on its home (or standby) screen.

CONTINUE DEVICE SET-UP 

-          On the Device, from the settings menu, choose option B “Connect to Phone”.  Option B can be chosen by pressing ‘b’ on the keyboard, or scroll to option-B and press Enter. 

-     Upon reaching the following screen, click on ‘a’ to start the pairing process

 
 

-     The Web-Viewer shall start searching for all Bluetooth enabled and discoverable devices in the vicinity

 
 

The Web-Viewer will show all bluetooth-enabled and discoverable devices in the vicinity.  Select the serial number that corresponds to your BTA.  The serial number for the BTA is located on the packaging for the BTA.  Press Enter when the desired serial number is highlighted.

Type-in the password for the Bluetooth adapter, and then press the Enter key.  The password is located on the packaging for the adapter.  Insure that NUM is pressed on the keyboard to access the numeric keys (NUM will be displayed on the topright corner of the screen).  All typed text will appear on top left corner of screen.

Once the adapter is successfully paired, the device will ask for an ‘Init String’ – press Enter (Ent) to go to next step.

 
 

Successful pairing, will show the BTA information and return and screen to the original settings menu
